Last week, we joined Cricket Wales at Sophia Gardens for the UES Cricket Collective Awards.
The day was a celebration of the volunteers who keep cricket alive across Wales – the coaches, groundskeepers, organisers, and players who give up their time so that others can enjoy the game.
A day built on passion and purpose
The atmosphere was full of energy and gratitude from the moment we arrived. Nominees, guests, and clubs from all corners of Wales gathered together – sharing stories, laughter, and (of course) some excellent food before the ceremony began.
Each award told a different story of dedication – decades spent coaching juniors, restoring pitches after floods, or finding creative ways to make clubs more inclusive. The trophies themselves were handcrafted from recycled cricket bats – a simple but powerful symbol of what these awards stand for: sustainability, creativity, and community.
A shared commitment to sustainability
One highlight for us was the Green Club Award, which recognises sustainability in action. This year's winner raised vital funds to improve accessibility and efficiency across their site, creating a better space for players and the planet.
For UES, it's a natural fit. As a building services partner focused on energy efficiency and sustainable facilities, we're proud to support Cricket Wales in helping clubs future-proof their spaces. Together, we're ensuring that community sport continues to thrive – responsibly and for the long term.

From everything we saw at the awards, the future of Welsh cricket looks bright. The passion, teamwork, and creativity on display were inspiring – and a reminder that excellent facilities are about more than infrastructure. They're about people.
