Solar PV installation helps St Barnabas Church save 2,720kg in annual CO2

Overview

St Barnabas Church plays a vital role in supporting the local community, but rising energy costs were putting pressure on its finances. Outdated infrastructure, cracked windows, water-damaged ceilings, and poor insulation caused significant heat loss and increased energy use.

To protect their resources and create a more efficient, sustainable building, the church asked UES to modernise their facilities and deliver a long-term solution that would support their operations for years to come.

What was the solution?

We delivered a combined upgrade to boost the church’s energy performance and modernise its ageing infrastructure. We installed a 32-panel Solar PV system with three battery units to generate on-site clean electricity and store excess energy. This system reduces the church’s reliance on the grid by 46%.

To tackle heat loss, we replaced 12 damaged windows and installed a new 400-tile suspended ceiling with insulated panels to improve temperature control across the building.

Together, these upgrades improved efficiency, reduced waste, and created a more resilient, future-ready space for the community.

What was the result?

The upgrades have transformed St Barnabas Church. The new Solar PV system is projected to generate 13,135 kWh of clean electricity each year, reducing their grid dependency and cutting 2,720 kg of CO₂ annually - equal to the carbon absorbed by 125 trees.

With improved insulation, new windows, and a modernised ceiling, the church now benefits from stronger heat retention, lower energy waste, and more stable running costs.

This project positions St Barnabas Church as a forward-thinking community hub, showing how places of worship can modernise sustainably while preserving their heritage. The church can now operate more sustainably and cost-effectively, reinvesting more in the community it serves.
